In 2013, the City of Orillia required the removal of Hillcrest Public School from the land that it sat on. To do so, they hired MGI Construction to perform demolition as well as environmental services. After demolition, the property was retained by the city and now, where Hillcrest Public School once stood, open green space lies for residents to enjoy. Up the street from this location is the YMCA, and one of Orillia's high schools.
