After filing for creditor protection in June 2017, Sears Canada announced it would close 20 full-line locations, 15 home stores, 10 outlet stores, and 14 Sears hometown stores. To demolish this former store, asbestos-containing building materials were first observed and as always, the asbestos removal was conducted by a competent and qualified asbestos abatement contractor. All asbestos-related work be subjected to inspection and air monitoring to ensure building occupants are safe from exposure. MGI completed the redemise of this mall in March 2020.
