Full Steam Ahead: MGI on the Fast Track to Completion at Raleigh Transit Site in Oshawa

Commuting is a reality of many people’s lives. From 2006 to 2016, the Census showed the number of Canadians commuting to work by car rose 28.3%, and those commuting to work by public transit rose 59.5%.

Around the world, people commute in many different ways. Commuters sled to work with dogs in Alaska, or with reindeer in the Western Siberian region of Russia. Cable cars on ropes are used by commuters in Georgia, Bolivia, and Pakistan. Some creatives also commute using alternatives such as kayaking, paddle boarding, rowing, kite surfing, and even motor-powered paragliding.

Perhaps the world’s longest commute goes to America’s Ian Bearce, who travels over 6 hours from his home in Minneapolis to his job in New York City. That’s enough time to listen to Drakes’ full discography, plus the complete works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Then again on the way back…

Here in Canada, the average commute time is 26 minutes (34 minutes in Toronto), and for those taking public transit, this rises to 44.8 minutes (49.5 in Toronto). No doubt this commuting time adds up, and a well-built and reliable public transit site is thus important to many people's lives.

MGI is doing our part with a current project at Raleigh Transit Site in Oshawa. Located 400 m south of Highway 401, north of Raleigh Avenue and east of Farewell Street, our work on this job involves both site preparation activities as well as new construction. The new construction includes a roof, floor drain piping, catch basins, a concrete floor, sanitary and storm lines, a hot water heater, unit heaters, and exterior light posts and lighting. When it comes to supporting public transit, we say ‘full steam ahead!’ (Environmentally friendly electric steam, that is, of course!).
