Coffee is more than a drink. It’s a reason to gather with friends—a vital part of many mornings. Above all, it supersedes culture, social classes, and differences. It has the power to drive change and, thanks to North Brew Coffee, it is well on its way to creating a future filled with hope and without homelessness for Canada’s capital. There are numerous social, health, and personal benefits of drinking coffee. When coffee is brewed, the community gathers, and when people come together—change becomes possible. The delicious taste of coffee isn’t the only perk when drinking a cup; there are numerous health benefits that come along with it. Here, I share just a couple.
Reduces the Chance of Liver Cancer
Coffee, in moderation, can improve your physical health. According to Medical News Today, Italian researchers discovered that drinking coffee can reduce the chance of liver cancer up to 50%. It also decreases your chances of liver fibrosis, which is an excess of scar tissue accumulated on your liver. Limiting your alcohol consumption isn’t the only way to protect yourself, coffee is an affordable and tasty combatant against liver fibrosis and cancer.
Improve your Mental Health
We all either have been or know someone who needs a strong cup of coffee in the morning to boost their mood. Coffee’s benefits for your mental health don’t just stop in improving your mood; Psychology Today highlighted two main reasons why coffee decreases the risk of developing depression. The first hypothesis is that depression is a result of inflammation in the brain which can be alleviated by the antioxidants in coffee. Another hypothesis is that caffeine is a psychostimulant that gives you the energy you need to be more active and motivated. We all could use a little more energy in our lives—and a little more coffee for that matter!

We invest in a local charity in Ottawa called The Mission, which fights to eliminate homelessness entirely. You’re just one great cup of coffee away from contributing to a larger cause in taking part in this community.
Clearly then, there is more to coffee than what meets the eye—start brewing change today.
